Halle Berry Finalizes Divorce From Olivier Martinez

Fans holding out hope for a reconciliation from Halle Berry and her third husband Olivier Martinez were dealt a shocking blow yesterday when TMZ reported that the Academy Award-winning actress and French heartthrob have finalized their split.

While they still have to deal with the property settlement, which should be easy given they signed a prenup, they have agreed to share physical and legal custody of their 3-year-old son Maceo, and Martinez agreed to let Berry be listed as the petitioner in the divorce.

'Kings' Update: Production Start Date Set On Halle Berry Drama

Two days after Christmas, cameras will begin rolling on 'Kings', an independent drama set against the backdrop of the 1992 Los Angeles riots that is written and will be directed by Deniz Gamze Erguven in what will be her English-language debut.

Halle Berry and Daniel Craig signed on for the drama in June and Lamar Johnson, Kaalan Walker and Rachel Hilson were recently added to the cast ahead of the December 27th start on production, which is being financed by China’s Bliss Media and Maven Pictures.

China’s Bliss Media, Maven Pictures to Finance Halle Berry’s L.A. Riots Movie

China’s Bliss Media and Maven Pictures have come on board to finance “Kings,” the independent drama set against the backdrop of the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

Halle Berry and Daniel Craig have been attached to star since June. Lamar Johnson (“The Next Step”), Kaalan Walker, and Rachel Hilson (“The Good Wife,” “The Affair”) are joining the cast.

Deniz Gamze Erguven, director of “Mustang,” is helming “Kings” from her own script in what will be her English-language debut. Production will begin Dec. 27 in Los Angeles.

Erguven is re-teamed with “Mustang” producer Charles Gillibert. He’s producing and co-financing through his CG Cinema. Maven Pictures co-founders Trudie Styler, Celine Rattray, and Charlotte Ubben serve as executive producers alongside Wei Han of Bliss Media.

IMR is handling international sales and CAA, which arranged the film’s financing, represents the movie’s domestic rights. Bliss Media owns the distribution rights for Greater China. “Kings” is also co-produced by Canal Plus, France 2 Cinema and Ad Vitam in France, and by Scope Pictures in Belgium.

“Kings” centers on a foster family in South Central in 1992, a few weeks before the city erupts in violence following the verdict of the Rodney King trial. Erguven began working on the screenplay in 2004 and has spent years working with the South Central neighborhood.

Craig will portray a loner who lives in South Central Los Angeles and falls in love with Berry’s character. When the riots erupt, he will help Berry in protecting her children from the violence.

“‘Kings’ is such a powerful read. Its elegant simplicity, coupled with Deniz’ vision, make it the perfect kind of project that Bliss Media would like to be a part of,” said Bliss Media’s Wei Han.

Bliss Media most recently wrapped production in Shanghai on “S.M.A.R.T. Chase,” starring Orlando Bloom. Bliss co-financed and executive produced Pablo Larraín’s “Jackie,” starring Natalie Portman, and acquired the Chinese distribution rights to Mel Gibson’s “Hacksaw Ridge,” which was released in China on Dec. 8 and set a box office record for imported war films in China.

“Maven Pictures’ mission is to support films with women in front and behind the camera,” said Maven Pictures’ Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler. “Deniz is an extraordinary talent, and we look forward to being part of such an incredible project.”

Maven’s credits include “The Kids Are All Right” and “American Honey.” Maven is partnered with Jessica Chastain in her production company Freckle Films, and is heading to Sundance with “Novitiate,” starring Margaret Qualley and Melissa Leo.

CG Cinema’s credits include “Clouds of Sils Maria” by Olivier Assayas; “Eden” by Mia Hansen-Love”; “Personal Shopper,” which won the best director award at the 2016 Cannes festival for Assayas; and “Mustang” which won four awards at the French Cesars and was nominated for an Academy Award for best foreign film.

However, two little tidbits about the film were recently disclosed. Daniel Craig, who was rumored to be in talks for the project as her love interest, confirmed during an interview at the New Yorker Festival that he will play a small supporting role in the film and according to Backstage, the film will begin filming in mid-December and continue through February 2017 in Los Angeles with Heidi Levitt Casting handling additional casting.

Relativity Pushes Halle Berry's 'Kidnap' To March 2017

Looks like Halle Berry's thriller 'Kidnap' will remain hostage just a little bit longer. Relativity Media has moved the film off of its planned December 2nd release date and now plans to release the film, directed by Luis Prieto, on March 10th, 2017.

According to Deadline, the financially-unstable company is also trying to shop the film around given the high testing scores for the film and its inability to raise P&A for the project.

Deadline: Relativity Media’s Halle Berry thriller Kidnap is now scheduled to be released on March 10, 2017. But Deadline also hears that the movie is being shopped around town to potential distributors. That news comes in the wake of Relativity today pulling Kidnap off its most recent December 2 release date.

Kidnap is directed by Luis Prieto and written by Knate Lee and follows a mother who is hellbent on rescuing her kidnapped son. We hear the test scores on the film have been quite high, in the realm of Berry’s The Call ($17.1 million opening, $51.9M domestic, $69M worldwide B.O.), particularly among African Americans. We understand Relativity was hoping to release the movie, but couldn’t get the P&A together for December 2. A trailer for Kidnap dropped in late August.

Relativity’s last two movies since it emerged from bankruptcy deep-sixed on the fall schedule: Masterminds ($17.4M) and The Disappointments Room ($2.4M), which earned a D CinemaScore.

Deadline reported last month that Relativity was desperately trying to refinance and could be approaching a Chapter 7 filing before the end of the year; also that Lionsgate was kicking the tires on the studio’s 40-title-plus library.

The absence of Kidnap on December 2 currently leaves the Blumhouse High Top horror title Incarnate standing as the sole wide release in the slow period that follows the Thanksgiving/Black Friday stretch. Should Kidnap not be snapped up by a new distributor and remain at Relativity, it will face off with Warner Bros/Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island on March 10.

Halle Berry Salutes Domestic Abuse Survivors With Powerful Quote

On Wednesday (October 12th), Halle Berry borrowed the powerful words of poet Michael E. Reid to show her support for the survivors of domestic violence and abuse in a powerful post accompanied by an image of her wearing an intricate crown. Read her post below:

"My #WCW goes to all my QUEENS who have suffered any form of domestic violence. I think this quote captures it perfectly... 👑 "Dear women, Sometimes you'll just be too much woman. Too smart, too beautiful, too strong. Too much of something. That makes a man feel like less of a man, which will start making you feel like you have to be less of a woman. The biggest mistake you can make is removing jewels from your crown to make it easier for a man to carry. When this happens, I need you to understand, you do not need a smaller crown... You need a man with bigger hands." (💬 @justmike_ ) #domesticviolenceawarenessmonth #domesticviolence #purplepurse 💜 @jenessecenter" (via Instagram)

Halle Berry Talks Overcoming Adversity With 'W' Magazine

You've seen her stunning cover for the first-ever his-and-hers fashion issue of W magazine and now, excerpts of Halle Berry's interview for the issue has surfaced and she opens up about her beauty pageant background, overcoming adversity and more. Read it beneath:

Halle Berry has played all types of characters: a "crack ho" in Spike Lee's Jungle Fever, a Bond girl in Die Another Day, a superhero in the first X-Men movie. In 2001, she became the first African American woman to win the Oscar for best actress, thanks to her part in Monster's Ball. But these roles didn't come easily to her -- Berry had to beg to be taken seriously by Hollywood. "I came from the world of beauty pageants and modeling and right away when people heard that I got discounted as an actor," she said. In this year's Royals portfolio, Berry is paired with Melissa Benoist, the star of the new hit CW series "Supergirl."

Why did you go into beauty pageants?
Actually, my boyfriend at the time wanted a beauty pageant girlfriend. So he entered me and I got this letter in the mail saying, "You are a finalist in the Miss Team Ohio," and I thought "Uh, what is this?" And then he told me, "Oh, by the way, I sent your prom picture in and now you have to go." So I took my prom dress--It was quite taffeta, hoop skirt, off the shoulders, almost like I was getting married--and I went to this contest, thought it was fun, and I ended up winning. And once you start winning these things it's like a snowball. And you have to go to the next one and if you when there you go to the next one, and I kept winning all the way until the Miss USA pageant where I did not win. I was first runner up to Christy Fichtner. And that ended my beauty pageant career.

What was your talent in the beauty pageant? I had no talent. We didn't have to have the talent. [In] Miss America you need a talent. Miss USA you're talentless. You just show up. Thank god I didn't have to sing.

When did it get into your head that you wanted to act? After that I graduated high school. I'd worked so hard in high school to be Ms. everything: I was head of my class, editor of the newspaper, in the marching band, the mascot. I was so exhausted from high school that I thought I have to leave town and go have a break. So, I moved to Chicago. I knew a woman that owned a modeling agency and I started modeling. While I was there I started studying at Second City and that's when one of my teachers there said, "I think you should be an actor. I think you've got some talent." And I thought "well, I don't really want to be an actor. I want to be a journalist. I'm gonna go to college and I'm gonna be a journalist. I like to write." And he said, "Okay but I think you should be an actor." So, one thing led to another and I took that path. Sometimes I look back and I think how, "How could my life have been different. What if I were that journalist? What if I didn't choose this life? How would it be different?" And I'm not complaining. I love what I've ended up doing. I love what I do. But I do think, I do look back and I think, wonder what if I had done something different.

What was the first thing you auditioned for?
A television series called "Living Dolls" back in the late '80s. [And I got that job. Scariest day of my life. I actually got my first job with my first audition. Luckily for me that show was very short-lived. It got canceled 13 weeks in, and then I got off on my movie career and my next job was with Spike Lee in Jungle Fever.

Spike Lee wanted me to read for the part of his wife and I read that part fine enough, but then I said to Spike "You know I really am eyeing this crack ho role, can you please let me audition for that?" And he said, "no, no I don't see you as the crack ho." I said, "I am the crack ho. Really deep down I'm the crack ho!" And he was like, "No, I don't see it." And I said, "Let me go in the bathroom, wash all this makeup off; you will see eyeing the crack ho." So, he let me do that and I came back out and I got to read the crack ho, and I got the part of the of the crack ho. And it was an amazing way to start my career, playing a crack ho be directed by Spike Lee. It was major for me.

In the beginning of your career, it always seemed to me that you were intentionally trying to play the not gorgeous person. Was that intentional on your part? Yeah. It was intentional to not play the gorgeous girl. I came from the world of beauty pageants and modeling and right away when people heard that I got discounted as an actor. So, I had the job of trying to eliminate that part of my persona, and Spike gave me a chance to do that. And I took on roles early on that really didn't rely on my physical self at all and that was a good way to sort of get some credibility within my industry.

With Monsters Ball, Lee Daniels didn't want to see me read. He was actually disgusted by the thought. He thought there's no way and my argument to him was, just because someone looks a certain way doesn't mean that they are spared adversity. Adversity does not discriminate. I thought, "My looks haven't spared me one hardship or one hurt moment or one painful situation. So please, you know, give me a shot at this." I said, "I often think it's more interesting when you see someone that looks a certain way struggle in ways that you wouldn't think they would be struggling with." He ultimately gave me a chance and that sort of changed the course of my career in so many ways.

Report: Halle Berry Puts Divorce From Olivier Martinez On Hold

Halle Berry & Olivier Martinez photo Halle_Berry_Oliver_Martinez_962048543.jpg

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez may be having second thoughts about ending their marriage. The actress and her third husband announced that they were separating last October, but neither have followed up with the proceedings since filing.

According to reports and various sources (so take this news with a grain of salt), neither are in a rush to call it quits and the divorce is on hold for now. Read the report beneath:

TMZ: Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez raced to the courthouse last year, trying to beat each other to the punch in filing divorce papers, yet a year later they are poised to dismiss the case and stay married.

We found a legal doc in which the clerk in divorce court sent a notice to both Halle and Olivier, saying they've been asleep at the wheel and done nothing to make the divorce final. The clerk issued an ultimatum ... either do something or the case will be dismissed.

We've spoken with multiple sources, on both Halle and Olivier's side, and they say the same thing. Neither is in a rush to make the divorce final, and they're fine with staying married.

As for why ... we're told Halle isn't convinced she wants a divorce. We're told she still thinks Olivier might change, especially in the anger management department, and if he does she thinks the marriage could work.

Olivier's clearly had anger problems ... the last straw was when he pushed an LAX employee with a baby car seat and got in trouble with the law.

There are other reasons why both Olivier and Halle aren't going through with the divorce. We're told they're getting along great and both are actively involved in parenting both 3-year-old Maceo and 8-year-old Nahla. Although Olivier isn't Nahla's dad, he's still actively involved in her life.

And there's another reason. Halle -- who just turned 50 -- isn't crazy about getting a third divorce. She doesn't think it's good for her, or her kids.

So, we're told the divorce will probably just go away. For now, they're just friends and good parents, but who knows.

Halle Berry Fights For Her Abducted Son In First 'Kidnap' Trailer

Halle Berry On Turning 50: "It's A Great Place To Be"

In a new interview with USA Today (who exclusively premiered the trailer for her new 'Kidnap' film), award-winning Halle Berry opens up about turning 50, her foray into using social media and some of her future projects. Read the complete article beneath:

Halle Berry is welcoming life at 50 and letting the world know it.

When the actress and former Bond girl reached that milestone birthday Aug. 14, she posted a stunning outdoor shot on her Instagram account, in which she wears little more than a lace cover-up and a big smile.

“With open arms I welcome 50 … I’m so blessed to be here,” Berry wrote in the post. It’s a message that Berry wants to continue to send out on social media. That's why she chose the photo, taken on a recent vacation in the desert, to mark the occasion.

“I said ‘What do I want to say about my 50th birthday?’ ” Berry told USA TODAY during a phone conversation. “I’m now into the whole world of social media and realizing that it’s my platform to say whatever I want to say. I love it. So I just wanted to let every one of my fans know I am embracing 50."

Friends had been warning Berry about the birthday in tones of dread rather than celebration. For the last year, “people have said to me, ‘You’re turning 50. Oh, God. How does that make you feel?’ " said Berry. “Well, I feel great. I’ve never been defined by a number or my age. And I’ve never felt better.”

Nor looked better, judging by Berry’s Instagram account, which she launched in March with a thoughtful, au naturel pose — a rear view of her walking through the forest, seemingly topless. Expect more shots like this as her year-long celebration continues.

“This whole year is going to be about 50. My Instagram is going to be blown up with what 50 looks like, feels like, thinks like,” said Berry. “It’s going to be a '50 year' for me and I cannot wait.”

Berry will have her action thriller Kidnap out this winter and has shot the sequel for Kingsman: The Golden Circle (in theaters June 16, 2017). The former gymnast did her share of stunt work in Kidnap, holding onto a moving car and wielding a shovel. She's game for more action roles in the future.

“Action has always been in my wheelhouse,” said Berry, who stars as Storm in the X-Men franchise. “Anytime I get to do anything physical, be part of the real action and do my own stunts, I just love it.”

Off set, Berry find fulfillment in her children Nahla, 8, and Maceo, 2 (Berry and husband Olivier Martinez announced their divorce in October). She celebrated her birthday in a low-key family way: “It wasn’t about a party, it was about being with the ones you love.”

The Oscar-winning actress took stock of where she is in her life. "I’m so much wiser today. I feel stronger, I’ve survived a lot. And that’s a good feeling. It’s a great place to be. I’m lucky enough and blessed enough to arrive to it.”
